Chevrolet unveiled
the 2019 Silverado earlier this year and the company has continued to release
new details about the truck ahead of its launch this fall. The latest dispatch
from the automaker focuses on the new Durabed which has “best-in-class cargo
volume, box depth, box length.” In terms of volume, the 2019 Silverado
Short Box now holds 1,784 liters. This is an increase of 283 liters and it means the bed is up to 20 percent more spacious
than competing trucks.
The story is
largely the same when it comes to the Silverado with the Standard Box. The bed now holds 2,038
liters of equipment, which is an improvement of 283 liters.
The Long Box, on the other hand, is truly massive as it has a volume of 2,520 liters – an increase of 396 liters.
Size isn’t the only
thing Chevrolet is proud of as the company noted the bed is now the strongest
in the segment. The bed floor is constructed out of high-strength steel which
is rated at 500 MPa. The old floor was
rated at 340 MPa and 2019 Ram 1500 has the same rating.
Besides the
increased dimensions, the Durabed has a segment-leading 12 tie-downs which are
located at varying heights. Each can support 500 lbs (226 kg) of force and
customers can order nine moveable tie-downs for even more cargo flexibility.
Speaking of
options, the bed can equipped with LED lighting units and a 110/120-volt power
outlet. Silveardo customers will also have the option of equipping the truck
with an exclusive power tailgate that can be automatically raised or lowered.
The 2019 Chevrolet
Silverado will be priced from US$ 29,795 and be offered with an assortment of
different engines. These include everything from a 4.3-liter V6 with 285 hp to a 6.2-liter V8 developing 420 hp.
