Six months ago, Audi of America president Scott
Keogh was talking about RS models and hinted the company has “surprise we’re
working on.” The executive declined to reveal which car he was talking about,
but said it was cool European vehicle that hasn’t been offered in the United
States yet. He also added it is the “#1 car on my list.”
Now, we’re fast forwarding to today as the automaker
has released a question and answer session with Keogh as part of its Inside
Audi of America series. While the session largely focuses on Keogh’s personal
life, it includes a question which asked “If you were an Audi, which one would
you be and why?” Keogh responded by saying the RS6 Avant because “it’s hard to
get, fast, super cool and I keep waiting for the avant revolution to replace
the SUV revolution.”
Keogh’s affinity for the RS6 Avant could suggest
this is the car he was talking about earlier this year. That’s far from certain
at this point, but other Audi of America executives have hinted the company was
open to bringing RS Avants to the United States.
Back in March, Audi of America’s vice president of
product management said “We always look at potential new opportunities in the
market” and “We keep holding discussions.” Filip Brabec went on to tell fans to
“keep writing us letters.”
Despite their optimism, Audi Sport boss Michael Renz
has previously stated “The RS6 and RS4 Avants are well accepted in Europe” but
it “might be a different situation” in the United States. Keogh’s own mention
of the “SUV revolution” also seems to reflect his acknowledgement that
crossovers are king right now.
It remains unclear if Audi will actually offer the
RS6 Avant in America, but there’s only a few other models that fit the cryptic
hints.
