At the GIIAS 2017,
the Mitsubishi Xpander celebrated its world premiere. A year later on the same
stage, Mitsubishi will announce a new variant of the light MPV.
Mitsubishi has not
specified whether the variant is an equipment line or an accessorised model.
Oto’s report suggests that it’s a new mid-level equipment line, while
Autonetmagz hopes it’s similar to the “Active Gear” series the company retails
in Japan. Japanese blog Minkara Carview had presented speculative renderings of
a Mitsubishi Xpander Active Gear in November last year.
The Mitsubishi
Xpander measures 4,475 mm in length, 1,750 mm in width and 1,695 mm/1,700 mm in
height. It has a 2,775 mm wheelbase, and it offers up to 205 mm of ground
clearance. The SUV-styled MPV uses the 4A91 1.5-litre MIVEC petrol engine that
produces 105 PS and 141 Nm of torque. The naturally aspirated four-cylinder
mill sends power to the front wheels via a 5-speed manual transmission or a
4-speed automatic transmission.
The Mitsubishi
Xpander first launched in Indonesia, where production takes place at the Bekasi
plant. Now it’s on sale in the Philippines and its Thai launch is around the
corner. After Thailand, Vietnam will receive the MPV. Next year, the next-gen
Nissan Grand Livina based on the Mitsubishi Xpander will arrive that will get
into the stronghold markets of Nissan as well as markets where the Grand Livina
needs replacing.
