An all-new variant of the Bugatti Chiron could be
unveiled to the public at August’s Pebble Beach Concourse d’Elegance. In recent months, Bugatti has
been showing the new model to a host of its most important clients. In May, one
attendee of a private event in Los Angeles said the vehicle looks drastically
different to the Chiron we’re familiar with and that it has a somewhat
controversial design.
The Supercar Blog claims to have since been informed
by someone who attended an unveiling in New York that the vehicle is called the
Chiron Divo. It goes a step beyond the Chiron Sport and features a host of
significant upgrades.
Bugatti is said to have designed an all-new,
racing-derived transmission for the Chiron Divo. This new gearbox will play a
part in boosting the hypercar’s acceleration, with the unnamed source claiming
it will be significantly quicker than the regular car. If that’s the case,
it’ll need to sprint to 100 km/h in under 2.5 seconds and reach 124
mph (200 km/h) in less than 6.5 seconds.
A primary focusing of Bugatti in developing the car
has been to make it better suited to the track. As a result, downforce has
allegedly been increased dramatically, so much so that the car’s top speed will
sit at just 385 km/h, well down on the electronically limited 420 km/h of the standard car. The Chiron Divo will also be the lightest model
to date.
The French car manufacturer is thought to be
limiting production to fewer than 100 units. However, it remains unclear if
those examples will be in addition to the 500 Chiron models already confirmed,
or if they’ll make up a part of the Chiron’s production run.
Either way, the Chiron Divo won’t be cheap, coming
in at a claimed € 5 million (US$ 5.85 million). That makes the car twice as
expensive as the € 2.65 million (US$ 3.1 million) Chiron Sport.
