India-bound MG Motor has added a new SUV to its
line-up in the Chinese market, the MG HS. The MG HS is the Chinese-owned
British marque’s new flagship SUV.
The MG HS stays close to the concept it evolves from
- the MG X-motion. Its interior looks a lot plusher and is more technologically advanced than any MG on sale.
The cabin is laid out in the wine red-black dual-tone colour scheme. That,
combined with dual-pane panoramic sunroof, brushed metal trim, contrasting
ambient lighting (in 64 options) and fluidic lines in the door pads makes the
interior look like that of a luxury SUV.
Features like sports seats, flat-bottomed steering
wheel with a red “Super Sport” mode button and jet aircraft turbine-style
silver air vents complement the dynamism of the mid-size SUV. The same is
reflected in the 12.3-inch virtual instrument cluster as well, which brings us
to the advanced technologies.
In addition to a fully digital instrument cluster,
the MG HS comes with a new ‘MG Pilot’ driver assistance system suite that
comprises Blind Spot Monitor, Rear-Cross Traffic Alert and Lane Departure
Warning System, as well as a 360-degree AVM, 10.1-inch floating central display
and Bose sound system.
The MG HS is based on the Roewe RX5 (MG RX5)’s
platform. Its specifications aren’t out, but it is expected to come with the 169 PS 1.5-litre and 220 PS 2.0-litre turbocharged
petrol engines from the Roewe RX5. Transmission choices should include 6-speed
manual (with 1.5L engine), 6-speed dual-clutch automatic (with 2.0L engine) and
7-speed dual-clutch automatic (with 1.5L engine). Only the 2.0L engine model
could have an AWD system, optionally.
The MG HS will go on sale in China in September.
There’s no word on a global launch for now.
