While it may look like Isuzu collaborated with Arctic Trucks for their latest off-road duo, both the D-Max and MU-X were actually designed and developed internally by Team D-Max. The Isuzu Concept X D-Max is based upon the pickup truck with the same name. It has an increased ground clearance of 370 mm, independent front and multi-link rear suspension and custom shock absorbers.

The company has released some very impressive approach and departure angles of 49.7 and 38.5 degrees, respectively. Stopping power is provided 390mm at the front and 355mm discs at the rear, with six- and four-piston calipers, whereas a turbodiesel 3.0-liter inline-four engine, with a six-speed auto, is found under the hood.


Other custom parts include the steel fenders and bonnet, alloy bulbar, alloy tray and sports bar and 4,536 kg winches on both ends. The truck sits on 12×20-inch wheels, wrapped in 38-inch M/D tires from Toyo.

Isuzu’s Concept X MU-X is a body-on-frame SUV with the same visual and technical upgrades as the Concept X D-Max pickup truck. In fact, the only differences between the two, besides the interior design, is the departure angle: 37.3 degrees in the former.


The Isuzu Concept X D-Max and MU-X probably won’t be put into production, as the Japanese automaker hasn’t announced anything in this direction. However, despite calling them studies, there’s nothing conceptual about them, as they’re more than capable of traveling through rivers or attacking steep slopes.
