The Volvo XC40 can be ordered with a turbocharged 1.5-liter engine, which is the brand’s first-ever three-cylinder unit. It produces 156 PS at 5,000 rpm and 265 Nm of torque from 1,850 to 3,850 rpm. The engine is paired to a six-speed manual transmission for now, but an eight-speed automatic will be offered at a later date.

The Volvo XC40 T3 needs 9.4 seconds for its 0 to 100 km/h sprint, burns 6.2 l/100 km (45.6 mpg UK / 38 mpg US) on average, emits 144 g/km of CO2 and has a towing capacity of 1.6 tons , with a braked trailer. The Swedish carmaker has already published the official starting price of this T3 spec version for the United Kingdom, where it starts at £ 27,610 when powered by the aforementioned mill.


Volvo has expanded the XC40 lineup furthermore with the addition of the 2.0-liter T4 petrol and D3 diesel engines. The T4 has 190 PS and gets an automatic gearbox and all-wheel drive as standard, whereas the D3 makes 150 PS and can be had with a manual or an automatic transmission, in FWD or AWD. Completing the engine lineup are the 247 PS T5 petrol and 190 PS D4 diesel, both of them getting an automatic gearbox and all-wheel drive as standard.

People looking into the Volvo XC40 can choose between the Momentum, R-Design and Inscription trim levels too, with each of them getting the optional ‘Pro’ upgrade. The Momentum features 18-inch alloy wheels, automatic LED headlights with Active High Beam, Sensus 9-inch infotainment, sat-nav, smartphone connectivity and dual-zone climate control. The Volvo On Call is standard, alongside the rear parking sensors, cruise control, keyless start, rain-sensing wipers and roof rails.
                      

Volvo’s XC40 R-Design benefits from a high-gloss black grille, roof rails, window frames and front and rear skid plates, Black Stone roof and side mirror casings, tinted rear windows, dual tailpipes, and matte-black diamond-cut alloy wheels. Inside, this flavor of the SUV gets R-Design tread plates, sports pedals, black headlining, perforated leather for the steering wheel and gear knob, and Nubuck upholstery. Other equipment offered at no extra cost includes the LED front fog lamps, stiffer springs, thicker anti-roll bars and faster-acting shock absorbers.

Finally, the Inscription builds upon the Momentum, adding the Driftwood cabin inlays, leather-faced upholstery, power-adjustable driver’s seat, ambient lighting, Orefors crystal glass insert in the gearshift lever on automatic versions, an electric tailgate and chrome grille inserts on the outside, among others. Each grade can be had with the ‘Pro’ package, which features LED front fog lights with cornering function, larger wheels on the R-Design and Inscription, heated front seats and a heated windscreen.
