The new Hyundai
Santa Fe has been officially launched at the 2018 Gaikindo Indonesia
International Auto Show (GIIAS), which is still ongoing for the public at BSD
City. The fourth-generation Santa Fe is available in two trim levels : GLS and
XG and two engines.
The motors in
question are a 2.4 litre MPI naturally aspirated petrol engine with a six-speed
automatic, and a R-series 2.2 litre CRDi turbodiesel. The e-VGT oil burner puts
out 193 PS and 436 Nm of torque, and is mated to an eight-speed Shiftronic
automatic. No 2.0 litre T-GDI petrol turbo for Indonesia.
The three-row
seven-seater SUV’s price range is from IDR 499 million for the petrol
GLS to IDR 569 million for the range topping diesel XG. This puts it in
competition with the Honda CR-V Turbo and Toyota Fortuner TRD in the republic.
The new Santa Fe
masks its bulk very well in the metal, but at 4,770 mm long and 1,890 mm wide,
it’s actually 80 mm longer and 10 mm wider than the third-generation DM. The
new car’s 2,765 mm wheelbase is 65 mm longer. Top spec Santa Fes roll on
19-inch wheels.
Exterior design
highlights include the new Kona-style face with multi-tier lighting (the top
tier is just the LED daytime running lights, main beams are below) and the
brand’s latest “Cascading Grille” signature. The rear end is neat. Check out
the tail lamp detailing, which resembles BMW’s OLED scales from afar, wrapping
Mercedes-style crystal elements.
Inside, besides
looking more premium than before, the cabin features better rearward visibility
(41% bigger rear quarter glass) and more space for the second and third row.
Legroom in the middle row is up by 38 mm and the seat base is 18 mm higher.
There’s a new one-touch seat folding function for easy access to the third row
seats, and headroom is up by 22 mm there.
