The BMW has
taken the wraps off the all-new X2 M35i. Being billed as the “most
powerful compact sports activity coupe,” the X2 M35i has a 2.0-liter TwinPower
Turbo four-cylinder engine that produces 302 hp and 450 Nm of torque. It is connected to an eight-speed automatic transmission
and a standard all-wheel drive system which enables the model to accelerate
from 0-100 km/h in 4.9 seconds.
The performance upgrades extend beyond the engine
compartment as the crossover has been equipped with an adaptive M Sport
suspension and an M Sport front differential. The latter component is
celebrating its debut on an M Performance model and it reduces traction losses
to the front wheels.
Elsewhere, the X2 M35i has been outfitted with an M
Sport braking system that features 17- and 18-inch steel discs as well as dark
blue metallic calipers. The model also has a redesigned rear axle and an M
Sport steering system which promises to deliver an “impressively direct and
precise steering feel.”
On the styling front, the high-performance model is
distinguished by an aggressive front fascia which features new air intakes and
Cerium Grey accents. The crossover also has Cerium Grey mirror caps, a unique
rear spoiler and 19-inch lightweight alloy wheels.
The modest styling changes continue in the cabin as
drivers will find a leather-wrapped sport steering wheel and door sill plates
wearing the “M35i” moniker. Customers can also order optional M sports seats
which will be available in an assortment of different upholstery combinations.
Speaking of options, customers can order a color
head-up display, a wireless smartphone charger and Apple CarPlay. BMW also said
the model will be offered with an assortment of driver assistance systems
including traffic jam assistant and parking assistant. The BMW X2 M35i will go into
production in November for the United States market, while Europeans will have
to wait until March of 2019.
