Cadillac unveiled the 2019 CT6 V-Sport at the New
York Auto Show earlier this year and General Motors’s executive vice president
of global product development has now confirmed the model will be called the
CT6 V.
According to Automotive News, Mark Reuss made the
announcement at a Cadillac dealer convention in Las Vegas and went on to say
the name change was a “result of the overwhelming response the CT6 V-Sport
received.” While the model is getting a new name, it is keeping the twin-turbo
4.2-liter V8 engine that develops an estimated 550 hp and 850 Nm of torque.
Cadillac also used the dealer convention to announce
new V Series variants are in the works in and they will follow in the footsteps
of the CT6 V. The company declined to go into specifics, but said the models
will have “enhanced” engines, upgraded brakes and a sportier suspension.
While Cadillac is staying tight-lipped on specifics,
we can expect a CT5 V to fill the supercharged shoes of the CTS V. Further down
the road, we can look forward to a CT3 / CT4 V to replace the ATS V. There have
also been rumors about an Escalade V and that seems increasingly likely as the
company is working on a redesigned model which promises to be a huge improvement
over its predecessor.
In a statement, Cadillac President Steve Carlisle
said “Our V Series [lineup] will continue to expand the brand, enhance its
image and attract new buyers to our showroom.” He added, the brand’s
high-performance models are still “recognized and coveted by many as a symbol
of Cadillac performance engineering” even after three generations.
