The Toyota Century features old school styling and a
non-nonsense approach to luxury, but that could be changing as an apparent
Century GRMN has been spotted in Japan. Little is known about the car,
but a Twitter user posted several pictures of the model online. They show it
features a new front bumper, larger air intakes and sportier wheels. We can also see a black mesh grille grille
with what appears to be GRMN badging.
Moving further back, there’s black mirror caps and
sportier side skirts. The model also has a trunk-mounted rear spoiler and what
could be a rear diffuser. While the idea of a Century GRMN sounds crazy – like Rolls-Royce
Phantom Competition by BMW M crazy – it might not be that farfetched. Jalopnik
noted that Carsensor reported Toyota built a one-off Century GR prototype for
Toyota President Akio Toyoda.
This model appears significantly different than the
Century GR prototype, but that could be explained by the decision to take it to
production as a GRMN model. Of course,
it also just be a customized model to look like a GRMN variant.
Regardless, the standard Century has a 5.0-liter V8
engine that produces 376 hp and 510 Nm of torque. It
is backed by an electric motor that develops 221 hp and 300 Nm of torque. Thanks to this setup, the hybridized luxury car has a
combined output of 425 hp. A potential Century GRMN would likely up the ante
and rumors have suggested the model could have all-wheel drive.
