The same day the second generation Volvo V60 had its
world premiere in February, Lex Kerssemakers, President and CEO, Volvo Cars
(North America) confirmed that there will be a Cross Country variant of it. A
teknikensvarld reader has shared spy shots of this next-gen Volvo V60 Cross
Country that was spotted in Sweden.
As has been the case with all Cross Country models
from Volvo Cars, the 2019 Volvo V60 Cross Country will be a more rugged
offering that will have body cladding and higher ground clearance. It will also
have a slightly higher price tag. The second-generation Volvo V60 looks like a
mini-Volvo V90, and in the same way, the upcoming V60 Cross Country will look
like a mini-Volvo V90 Cross Country.
Careful observation of these images reveals a strip
running along the lower edge of the body. This plastic cladding, which is under
heavy camouflage, also runs over the wheel arches. This is a clear giveaway of
the test mule being the upcoming Cross Country variant. Also, the Volvo V60
Cross Country will have a higher ride height than the regular variant.
The second-generation Volvo V60 is underpinned by
the second-generation SPA platform. While it's available in as many as four
internal-combustion and two plug-in hybrid variants, the V60 Cross Country will
get only the mid-range and top-end options.
The 2019 Volvo V60 Cross Country will likely reach
the first markets by early 2019. Its Indian launch will likely take place
sometime in 2019.
