Mercedes is putting the finishing touches on the
2019 GLE and now the company is turning its attention to the next-generation
GLE Coupe. Looking sportier than its predecessor, the all-new model features a
massive grille which resides between large sweptback headlights. Further below,
we can see a wide lower intake and plastic cladding.
The front is largely evolutionary, but bigger
changes occur further back as designers fine-tuned the coupe’s styling to make
it look more aggressive. In order to achieve this, the model has a rakish
windscreen and a more angular beltline which helps to contribute to a sportier
greenhouse.
The roofline appears a tad sleeker as well and the
sporty side skirts help to contribute to the performance-oriented look. This is
echoed by the new bodywork and five-spoke alloy wheels. Camouflage hides much of the rear
end but the model will be equipped with a larger spoiler. We can also see
sportier taillights and a diffuser which is flanked by a dual exhaust system.
The interior should carryover from the standard
model so drivers can expect to find a thick-rimmed steering wheel and 12.3-inch
displays for the instrument cluster and infotainment system. Previous spy
photos have also shown the GLE will have new switchgear, four central air vents
and a redesigned center console with grab handles.
Engine options should be shared with the GLE and
this means we can expect an assortment of different options. Choices remain
unconfirmed but there could be a 3.0-liter six-cylinder diesel engine with
outputs of 286 PS and 600 Nm of torque as well as
340 PS and 700 Nm of torque. On the petrol side, there might be a 3.0-liter
inline-six developing 367 PS and 500 Nm of
torque. We can also expect a Mercedes-AMG GLE 53 Coupe with a twin-turbo
3.0-liter six-cylinder engine producing 435 PS and 520 Nm of torque.
Later on, there will be traditional AMG variants
with a twin-turbo 4.0-liter V8 engine. The base model should produce around 571
PS and 750 Nm of torque while the S variant could
have 612 PS and 850 Nm of torque.
