Skoda has just released new design sketches and
announced new information on its upcoming concept car debut for the Paris Auto
Show. The Vision RS features a plug-in hybrid powertrain with an output of 245
PS, which Skoda says ensures both driving dynamics and efficiency.
Backing that statement are the claimed CO2 emissions of just 33 g/km and
all-electric driving range of 70 kilometers, according to NEDC.
Most likely, that means the company targets emissions
of under 50 g/km for the production model in order for it to be classified as
an ultra-low-emission vehicle.
The Vision RS mates a 150 PS 1.5-liter TSI
turbocharged four-cylinder gasoline engine with a 102 PS electric motor
and a 13kWh battery pack. The performance figures are 7.1 seconds for the 0-100
km/h sprint and a top speed of 209 km/h, while the
lithium-ion battery can be charged by cable in 2.5 hours.
The automaker says the Vision RS combines an
“emotive new design language” with a high degree of sustainability as it uses
recycled carbon fiber and vegan materials for the interior. The cabin also
features illuminated and animated cut crystal glass.
The Vision RS serves a double role, as it previews
both the styling language of future Skoda RS models and a future compact
vehicle which may or may not be called Rapid. Said model will most likely
arrive next year, followed later on by the RS performance version.
