Aston Martin chief executive Andy Palmer has confirmed that the automaker’s upcoming ‘003’ hypercar will use a V6 turbo engine supplemented by a hybrid system. Speaking to Auto Express, Palmer revealed that the ‘003’ will slot below the Valkyrie in Aston Martin’s line-up but above the firm’s Ferrari 488 GTB and McLaren 720S competitor. Consequently, it will have the grunt to match vehicles like the LaFerrari and Porsche 918 Spyder.

Although a hybrid turbo V6 won’t be as evocative as the Valkyrie’s naturally-aspirated V12, it will deliver enough performance to compete with the upper-echelon of exotics. The ‘003’ has been dubbed ‘Son of Valkyrie’ in the past and is set to be manufactured in both left- and right-hand drive configurations. Just 500 units will be produced with pricing somewhere in the realm of seven figures.

From a design perspective, the new Aston Martin hypercar will share an obvious lineage with the Valkyrie, but be more suited to street driving.
