Offense sells tickets, they say in (American)
football, but defense wins games. You extend that sentiment to automotive
design as well – only replace “offense” with “exterior,” and “defense” with
“interior.”
Skoda, for one, knows that the design of its
vehicles’ interiors are as important as their exterior appearance. Maybe even
more so, given that it’s the part that comes in most direct contact with the
driver/customer. So it’s clearly investing as much time and effort on its
latest concept‘s cabin as it is on its outward shape. And it’s provided this
glimpse to show just that.
The show car is designed to preview both
a new hatchback (ostensibly to replace the current Rapid) and all its
forthcoming RS performance models in one racy concept, set to debut at the
Paris show next month.
The interior design adopts wide
expansive forms and accents of red and white to contrast with the black and
carbon. The bucket seats look well bolstered, the steering wheel (complete with
red center mark at the top) beefy and grippy, and loops for door handles.
There’s a big wide infotainment screen protruding from the dashboard, which
interacts with the digital instrument cluster. It’s all crafted from
environmentally friendly materials, with vegan Alcantara, recycled polyester
carbon trim, and specially cut crystal from Czech glass manufacturer Lasvit.
In short, it looks like just the right environment
from which to summon the performance capabilities of the Czech automaker’s
sportiest offerings, and we’re looking forward to seeing the complete package
once it’s fully revealed.
