Chevy’s 2019 Silverado is now equipped with an
all-new 2.7-liter turbocharged engine as standard, producing more power and
torque, while also offering better city mpg than the previous 4.3-liter V6
unit.
In fact, this 2019 model now weighs 172 kg less with this engine than the current Silverado with the V6, despite having
more interior room and cargo space. The result is a more efficient and
fun-to-drive truck, says the U.S. carmaker.
The 2.7-liter engine, standard on LT and RST trims,
boasts 14% more torque and 13% better fuel economy in the city, while still
being more than a second quicker to 96 km/h than the 4.3-liter V6 it
replaces. Also, with this new engine, the Silverado (20 mpg city / 11.7 l/100km
/ 23 mpg highway / 10.2 l/100km) exceeds the Ford F-150 XLT’s EPA-estimated 19
mpg (12.3 l/100km) city rating, while matching the RAM 1500 and its 3.6-liter
V6 mild hybrid.
Meanwhile, total output figures are 310 HP and 471 Nm of torque, and its 0-96 km/h is 6.8 seconds. As for towing
capacity, that would be 3,265 kg, with a 1,034 kg maximum payload.
Last but not least, the new 2.7-liter turbo unit
comes with Stop/Start technology, helping improve fuel efficiency in stop-and-go
traffic.
