Mini is
streamlining its model line with the introduction of three new trim levels,
replacing the old structure with a more simplified one. That is for
its home market in the UK. The new trims consist of Classic, Sport, and
Exclusive – each with their own unique set of equipment.
The base Classic
trim comes with a 6.5-inch infotainment screen, digital radio,
Bluetooth connectivity, ambient lighting, automatic headlights, and a Mini logo
projector in the door mirrors. Step up to Sport and you’ll get a JCW aero kit,
alloys, suspension, bucket seats, and steering wheel, alone with an anthracite
headliner. And the Exclusive trim features its own set of wheels, chrome trim,
and special leather upholstery.
Buyers will still
be able to choose between the existing engines and body-styles, but the trim
levels (and new option packages) make the selection of the right equipment and
appearance that much easier. Select between the three-door hatch, five-door
hatch, convertible, Clubman wagon, or Countryman crossover. Then pick your
engine spec: One, Cooper, Cooper D, or Cooper S. Choose your trim level from
among the three new options. Then select the Comfort, Comfort Plus, Navigation,
or Navigation Plus package (if you want), and further personalize the vehicle’s
appearance, and you’re done.
What’s more is that
Mini UK is introducing a complete online buying process that will allow
customers to configure the model they want, book a test drive, arrange
financing and payment, and even secure a trade-in value on their existing car
before arranging the delivery date at their chosen dealer – all without having
to speak to a salesman or step foot in a brick-and-mortar showroom until the
car’s ready to be picked up.
Pricing under the
revised structure starts at £ 16,190 for a three-door One Classic hatch and tops
out at £ 26,285 for a Countryman Cooper in Sport or Exclusive trim (with Cooper
D and Cooper S pricing evidently to follow). No word on whether the new
framework will extend to other markets (like ours in North America), but
suffice it to say we won’t be surprised if and when it does.
