The new 2019
Mercedes A-Class Sedan is the latest member of the A-Class family.
US-spec models will be available in A 220 guise, meaning power comes from a
turbocharged 2.0-liter petrol four-cylinder engine with 188 hp and 221 lb-ft of
torque. A seven-speed dual-clutch transmission will be the only option, with
Mercedes USA to also offer an all-wheel drive version, or as the company calls
it the A 220 4Matic.
The new A-Class
Sedan is a new addition to Mercedes’ compact range in North America, meaning
that it will be sold alongside the CLA model. The four-door compact sedan will
be produced at Daimler’s joint venture plant in Mexico, as well as in the
Rastatt factory in Germany.
Standard
specification in US-spec cars will include features like the brand-new MBUX
infotainment system that features AI-assisted voice control and a pair of
seven-inch displays (bigger, 10.25-inch screens are optional), as well as
Active Brake Assist. Customers will be able to further customize the new
Mercedes A-Class Sedan with the Progressive, AMG Line and Night Package
equipment lines that will be offered as options.
A big highlight of
the four-door A-Class remains the interior design; Mercedes says that their new
approach creates a new feeling of spaciousness in combination with the modern,
avant-garde look. The ambient lighting offers 64 colors this time, composed
into ten color themes to suit every mood.
As you would
expect, the list with the optional features is quite long, even including
driver assistance systems from the S-Class, including a semi-autonomous
function under certain conditions. Details on pricing, performance and fuel
economy will be announced in the coming weeks, so stay tuned.
