Hot on the heels of
the unveiling of the Camaro SS Shock concept, Chevrolet has announced plans to
introduce three classic concepts at SEMA. Designed to showcase the company’s
impressive lineup of crate engines, the concepts are based on older Chevrolet
models and each one features a different engine.
The star of the
lineup is the 1973 Chevelle Laguna which features an all-new supercharged
6.2-liter LT5 V8 crate engine. Hailing from the Corvette ZR1, the engine
produces 755 hp and 968 Nm of torque. Besides
featuring massive performance numbers, the crate engine has a dual-fuel system
with port injection and direct injection. This, combined with the supercharger,
enables the V8 to be the “most powerful production engine ever from Chevrolet.”
The engine will be
showcased in the aforementioned Chevelle concept and its styling reflects the
Corvette-sourced powertrain as the model has a modified carbon fiber hood from
the ZR1. Chevrolet didn’t say much else about the car, but it features a
revised grille which is flanked by LED headlights. The model also has 18-inch
wheels, a modified suspension and “spoilers that pay homage to the NASCAR
racecars” from the 1970’s.
Besides the
Chevelle, Chevrolet will introduce a 1967 C/10 pickup which has classic styling
mixed with “modern hot rod touches.” The latter upgrades include custom
bumpers, a lowered suspension and 20-inch wheels. Power will be provided by a
new ZZ6 EFI crate engine which is effectively a 5.7-liter Small Block V8 with
electronically controlled fuel injection. The engine produces 420 hp and Chevrolet says the mill is perfect for hot rods and restomods.
The final concept
is a 1978 K10 Silverado which has undergone a frame-off restoration at the
Milford Proving Grounds. Chevrolet says the truck looks factory-fresh and has a
“period look driven by modern technology.”
Speaking of the
latter, the Silverado has been equipped with a 6.0-liter L96 V8 crate engine
which produces 360 hp and 514 Nm of torque. The
fuel-injected powertrain is paired to a four-speed automatic transmission.
Besides the
aforementioned concepts and crate engines, Chevrolet will show the all-new
6L80-E six-speed automatic gearbox which is designed for LS and LT engine
swaps. The company will also display the new supercharged LT4 E-ROD crate
engine which is designed to meet California’s emission standards.
