AutoCar Professional states that Mahindra &
Mahindra plans to launch two new variants of the Bolero Pik-Up to guard its
position in the light commercial vehicle market. The company
sold more almost 160,000 units of the pickup in the last financial year. In
comparison, the Tata Ace family, currenly having 8 members with payload up to 1
tonne, which is the biggest name in the low-end of the small CV segment, sold
152,498 units. Of these, the regular model of the Ace accounted for 87,259
units.
With a rise in the demand for last-mile
transportation, the Nashik-based auto major will soon launch 1.3-tonne and
1.7-tonne variants of the Mahindra Bolero Pik-Up. The options will be sold
alongside the 1.5-tonne version.
The entire Mahindra Bolero Pik-Up range will
reportedly receive a handful of mechanical updates, including an updated rear
suspension with nine leaf springs and double bearings for the rear axle. Along
with the new payload capacities, the upcoming version will offer a more
spacious loading bay of about 45.75 square feet, allowing the haulage of wider
cargo. The new model will feature more powerful brakes with a twin diaphragm
tandem booster setup.
The new Mahindra Bolero Pik-Up range will offer an
updated design, more ergonomic driver and co-driver seats with a recline
feature and a headrest, and minor styling changes to the interior. A 2.5-litre m2DICR turbocharged
diesel engine will continue to drive the entire range of Bolero-based pickups.
It will produce a maximum power of 70 hp @ 3,200 rpm along with a peak torque
of 195 Nm between 1,500 - 1,800 rpm. The motor comes mated to a five-speed
manual transmission that sends power to the rear wheels. Currently, prices of
the Mahindra Bolero Pik-Up start at 6,51,106 (ex-showroom).
