Mahindra confirmed
that an automatic transmission for the Marazzo is planned. According to a new
report from Autocar India, the company is working on an AMT for the MPV. The Mahindra Marazzo was expected
to get the Mahindra XUV500’s 6-speed automatic transmission sourced from Aisin.
However, it turns out, a low-cost semi-automatic is planned instead. Magneti
Marelli will supply this unit, which will feature six gears.
Mahindra has also confirmed that it will introduce a
petrol engine in the Marazzo by 2020. M&M could be planning the automatic
option for both engine variants. A 1.5-litre mHawk turbocharged four-cylinder diesel engine powers the
Mahindra Marazzo currently. It produces 121 hp at 3,500 rpm and 300
Nm of torque at 1,750-2,500 rpm. A 6-speed manual transmission and a
front-wheel drive drivetrain layout are standard. ARAI has given a fuel economy
rating of 17.3 km/l to this configuration.
The Mahindra Marazzo AMT would cost anywhere between
INR 50,000-1,00,000 more than equivalent MT. In the Mahindra TUV300, the AMT
option costs over INR 81,000. M&M has set a monthly sales target of 4,000 units for the
Marazzo. The availability of an AMT that will offer more convenience while still
delivering a good fuel economy, and a petrol engine that will make the vehicle
accessible to a broader base of customers because of lower pricing will be
helpful to increase numbers once sales settle down next year.
