Mercedes-Benz will
launch the E-Class All-Terrain in India. The company will offer the executive model’s estate version to this market. The
Mercedes E-Class All-Terrain is designed to give the estate version more
versatility and the appeal to customers who wouldn’t prefer it if not for the
SUV style. It features a two-fin radiator grille with the star integrated in
the centre, model-specific three-part bumpers with the top part painted in the
body colour and the lower part in grained black plastic and skid plates
electroplated in silver-chrome.
Black wheel arch
covers, black side skirts (embellished with chrome trim strip) and 19-inch
exclusive alloy wheels with higher sidewalls enhance the confident look of the
Mercedes E-Class All-Terrain. This variant rides 29 mm higher, with 14 mm
coming from the tyres with a larger height/width ratio and 15 mm from the
normal driving level of the Air Body Control air suspension.
Mercedes-Benz will
sell the E-Class All-Terrain in India exclusively in the E 220 d model with the
OM654 engine. This 2.0-litre four-cylinder diesel mill produces 194 PS and 400
Nm of torque. The 9G-TRONIC 9-speed automatic transmission and the 4MATIC
all-wheel-drive system work together to send the drive to the wheels.
The rugged estate’s
Dynamic Select drive mode offers an additional ‘All-Terrain’ which has settings
for off-road driving and was derived from the (previous generation) Mercedes
GLE. This mode raises the chassis with the air suspension by 20 mm up to a
speed of 35 km/h.
Special features on
the inside include a trim part in an exclusive aluminium-carbon look, stainless
steel sports pedals with rubber stands and floor mats with All-Terrain
lettering. There’s also a special indicator in the vehicle display that shows
steering angle, the position of the air suspension, the angle of slope and the
angle of inclination, the accelerator/brake position and a compass.
The Mercedes
E-Class All-Terrain will likely cost around INR 65 lakh (ex-showroom). It will
go up against the Volvo V90 Cross Country, which retails at INR 65.31 lakh
(ex-showroom India).
