McLaren has yet to
launch the long-awaited three-seat Speedtail, yet it’s just been revealed that
its MSO division is working on its next project that, according to reports,
will be even more extreme and limited than the Speedtail.
A pair of prolific
car collectors in the U.S., dan_am_i and x_marc_the_spot on Instagram, recently
published images teasing the project. Dubbed BC-03, the car will allegedly be
limited to just 5 units worldwide and will not be a three-seater like the
Speedtail.
Understandably, the
two future owners of the vehicle are remaining tight-lipped about it, but
reports claim the BC-03 will be a production version of the Vision GT concept
McLaren designed for Gran Turismo last year.
If true, this means
the BC-03 will be a single seater focused on track performance. It could,
therefore, make use of similar aerodynamic elements as the concept, including a
towering rear wing, huge air intakes, and ultra-lightweight body panels. Think
of it as the McLaren equivalent of the Lamborghini Veneno, albeit with much
more performance and advanced technologies.
The Vision GT
concept used McLaren’s 4.0-liter twin-turbo V8 mated to a pair of electric
motors driving the front wheels for a total of 1150 hp and 1275 Nm of torque.
If these figures are replicated on the BC-03, it will be comfortably the
fastest vehicle the British automaker has ever produced. Buyers of the car have
apparently been previewed the vehicle by way of a single 2D sketch. Right now,
it remains unknown when McLaren will unveil the BC-03 hypercar.
