With Mercedes’ EQC all-electric SUV already
unveiled, the automaker turns its attention to the other eight EVs it has
promised to bring to market by 2022. Carscoops spy photographers spotted one
of them in Spain but it might not be what it looks like. The bodywork is
clearly that of the upcoming B-Class minivan that will debut tomorrow at the
Paris Auto Show.
However, some features like the wider wheel cases
and higher ground clearance don’t belong on the B-Class. Furthermore, the
235/50 R19 wheel/tire combination is rather big for a compact MPV and would be
better suited for an SUV.
This may be a chassis-testing mule for the new Mercedes EQB, which will share
the platform with the upcoming EQA hatchback. The vehicle produced no engine
sound when the photographers spotted it, as it was running in electric mode.
Furthermore, a look underneath the car revealed a fully covered underbody with
no exhaust pipes in sight. However, an electric plug could be spotted in a
cutout of the rear bumper.
The EQB will share the EVA II platform with the EQA
and is expected to offer a standard 60 kWh battery for a minimum driving range
of 400 km. The electric motors are likely to offer between 201 hp and 335 hp in the range-topping version, which might also get
a 110 kWh battery. Styling-wise, the EQB should combine a bodywork heavily inspired by
the boxy GLB with typical Mercedes EQ design cues.
