Mercedes-Benz’s
modern compact car family currently includes the hatchback and sedan versions
of the A-Class, and the B-Class minivan people carrier. Other models are coming
in the near future, including an entirely new GLA SUV, a reworked CLA four-door
coupe and another SUV, the GLB, plus, according to Daimler CEO Dieter Zetsche,
a sportier subcompact crossover.
This extensive
lineup covers pretty much every aspect buyers could be looking for in the
segment. However, it does not cater to those still favoring the generous boot
space and increased practicality along with the better handling characteristics
offered by a station wagon.
Mercedes hasn’t
said anything about such a version of the latest A-Class, and it really doesn’t
make sense as there’s no demand that would justify investing in it, yet Kleber
Silva imagined how an A-Class Estate would look like anyway. Granted, it
doesn’t look bad and the tapering roofline is supposed to make it look like a
shooting brake, but those looking for more space will choose either one of the
SUVs or the B-Class.
Apart from an
Estate, it seems Mercedes isn’t interested in rivaling the likes of the
two-door BMW 2-Series models, either, so we don’t expect coupe or convertible
versions of either the upcoming CLA or the fourth-gen A-Class, as they have
already been dismissed by company officials.
