The two British
automakers may have parted ways long ago, but both released an SUV for the
first time ever in their long and distinguished history: Bentley the Bentayga
and Rolls-Royce the Cullinan. Now, as far as the Cullinan is concerned, TopGear
reports that there is a good chance of it adopting a hybrid powertrain.
Specs are obviously
being kept a secret for now. However, it’s been alleged the hybrid will be more
powerful than the current range topper that’s powered by a twin-turbo
6.75-liter V12 rated at 571 PS and 850 Nm of
torque.
Thanks to the extra
boost provided by electrification, the Cullinan will be quicker to 100 km/h, although we expect the electronically imposed 250 km/h max
speed to remain the same. Another bold statement made by the publication is
that there’s a good chance that the Cullinan will remain on sale for the next
14 years, with the occasional makeovers.
Electrification is
only the beginning for the BMW-owned brand, as Rolls-Royce is taking into
consideration the introduction of a smaller SUV, which might arrive within a
few years. Also, the Rolls-Royce family might eventually expand with a new
model above the Phantom, which will be based on its aluminum platform and,
according to TG, will be “epic”, “space-age” and “electric”.
