Volkswagen has extended the Tiguan family with the
introduction of the new Offroad variant, that made its debut at Moscow Auto Show. The new VW Tiguan Offroad features the 4Motion four-wheel
drive system as standard, with Active Control and three driving modes called
‘Onroad’, ‘Offroad’ and ‘Snow’.
Depending on the selected mode, the driving and
assistance systems are being adjusted accordingly. This helps the VW Tiguan
Offroad tackle the respective terrain better, improving traction and making
sure that it can escape from some sticky or slippery situations better than its
siblings.
One doesn’t have to be a Volkswagen aficionado to
tell the Tiguan Offroad apart from the other versions, as all they have to do
is take a look at the redesigned bumpers with silver applications, which give
this Tiguan a ramp angle of 24 degrees. And there’s a special ‘Offroad’ badge
as well.
Other features include an integrated engine skid
plate, blackened chrome tips, black roof rails and side mirror covers, in
addition to a selection of six different colors. These are called Atlantic Blue
Metallic, Indium Grey Metallic, Oryx White Pearl, Pure Grey, Pure White and
Tungsten Silver Metallic. Furthermore, the SUV is also available in a two-tone
look, with black roof combined with the ‘Offroad Plus’ package, available as an
optional extra. The 18-inch Sebring alloy wheels are standard, but customers
can upgrade to the 19-inch Auckland and Victoria Falls, or 20-inch Kapstadt.
Inside, the VW Tiguan Offroad gets Austin fabric,
black headliner, comfort front seats, multifunction steering wheel and gear
knob wrapped in leather, aluminum trim, stainless steel pedals and rubber floor
mats. Active Lighting System, Dynamic Light Assist and dynamic cornering light
are standard, whereas the Discover Pro navigation system, Active Info Display
digital instrument cluster, Trailer Assist and DCC adaptive chassis control are
available at an extra cost.
In Germany, Volkswagen is offering the Tiguan
Offroad with a range of petrol and diesel engines, starting with the 150 PS TDI, married to a seven-speed DSG automatic transmission. All
versions come with 4WD and DSG as standard, and the base model starts from
€ 40,925 (US$ 46,930) locally.
