Volkswagen has released a new teaser video of the
T-Cross, ahead of its debut on October 25th. While the latest clip doesn’t
show much of the crossover, the teaser focuses on safety and the T-Cross’ City
Emergency Braking system with pedestrian detection. The system comes standard
on the T-Cross and it uses a sensor to detect other vehicles and pedestrians.
When a potential collision is detected, the system
will alert the driver and automatically primes the brake. If the driver fails to
respond, the crossover will automatically begin braking itself to prevent or
reduce the severity of a collision.
Volkswagen notes the City Emergency Braking system
is just one of the crossover’s numerous safety features which makes the T-Cross
one of the safest vehicles in its class. Other standard driver assistance
systems include Lane Assist and Front Assist. The model can also be equipped
with Adaptive Cruise Control, a Blind Spot Monitor and Rear Traffic Alert.
Volkswagen went on to say the T-Cross will have
“excellent crash protection” as well as an occupant protection system which
closes the windows, tightens the seat belts and increases the brake pressure in
the event of an accident. The T-Cross will be launched in Europe next spring and it will
feature a Jetta-like front fascia with a wide grille. The crossover will also
have plastic body cladding, chrome accents and prominent character lines.
Volkswagen has been tight-lipped on technical
specifications, but the model is expected to be offered with an assortment of
petrol and diesel engines. Choices are rumored to include a 1.0-liter TSI with
outputs of 93 hp and 113 hp. There could also
be a 1.5-liter TSI with 148 hp and an entry-level diesel
developing 93 hp.
