The 2019 718 Cayman GT4 has
been snapped testing once again at the Nurburgring. The prototype appears to be
production ready and thanks to having less camouflage compared to previous
scoops, we can take a closer look at its design.
In addition to the large rear wing, which will
pretty much be a point of reference when it comes to distinguishing the GT4
from the rest of the 718 Cayman family, it also adds some aerodynamic updates. Complementing the looks will be
the bigger wheels, and making sure that the car handles and stops better than
lesser 718 Cayman versions will be the stiffer suspension and larger brakes.
The naturally aspirated symphony of the latest 911
GT3 will, allegedly, be carried over into the new 718 Cayman GT4. However, the
4.0-liter flat-six unit will be detuned, probably producing some 400 PS, or about 100 PS less than the 911 GT3. revious reports hinted that the
Cayman GT4 will be offered with a six-speed manual gearbox for purists,as well
as a dual-clutch PDK.
Thanks to the aerodynamic updates, extensive work
made beneath the skin and the adoption of a very impressive engine, the new Porsche
Cayman GT4 will not just handle, but go like stink, too. As a reference, the
(larger but more powerful) 911 GT3 hits 100 km/h in 3.2 seconds with
the PDK or 3.3 seconds with the manual gearbox, and tops out at 317 km/h and 318 km/h, respectively.
We expect the GT4 to post a 0-100 km/h time of
around 4.0 seconds, as Porsche would never allow it to come too close to the
GT3.
