This is the new
Ford Fiesta R2, a rally car designed by M-Sport Poland to meet the latest FIA
R2 regulations. Based on the road-going Fiesta ST-Line, the team worked
together with the Ford Motor Company who provided financial backing and support
for the rally car programme.
Set to compete in
the Junior WRC Championship in 2019, the Fiesta R2 features upgraded suspension
that uses Reiger dampers which are three-way adjustable on the front and
two-way adjustable on the rear, Eibach springs (soft or hard settings) and an
optional anti-roll bar.
The rally car is
powered by a 1.0 litre EcoBoost engine that has been tuned to produce 200 hp at
6,500 rpm, paired with a Sadev five-speed sequential gearbox. The gearbox is
adjustable across three different settings, with a plated limited-slip
differential also available.
On the other hand,
braking duties is handled by Alcon competition calipers that are clamp down on
ventilated AP Racing front discs and Alcon solid rear discs. The design of the
car isn’t as extreme as the higher-class Fiesta WRC, but the Fiesta R2 does
attempt to mimic its sibling’s look.
