An unannounced ‘Ford Figo Blu’ was spotted on test
in India by Team-BHP reader Bhushit Dave. The mule is likely the facelifted
hatchback with a factory-fitted CNG kit. The Figo will gain 1.2- and
1.5-litre three-cylinder petrol engines from the Dragon engine family with the
facelift. For economy-focused customers not willing to shell out the premium
commanded by the 1.5-litre diesel engine, Ford will introduce a petrol-CNG
option, likely a derivative of the new 1.2-litre motor. The availability of the
bi-fuel option should boost demand from cab and fleet operators.
The facelifted Ford Figo looks the same as the
export-spec version. At the front, there’s a new mesh grille featuring a chrome
surround, daytime running lamps highlighted with C-shaped chrome detail and a
restyled bumper. At the rear too, there’s a new bumper, with a C-shaped
moulding at each corner echoing the chrome detail on the front bumper. The
stripes on the doors and tailgate are specific to the ‘Blu’ model.
The new 1.2-litre Ti-VCT three-cylinder petrol
engine produces 96 PS and 120 Nm of torque. Paired with an all-new 5-speed
manual transmission, it will likely deliver a fuel economy of over 20 km/l. The
copy-pasted diesel engine will also send the drive to the wheels via this new
transmission, which is almost 15% lighter and requires 40% lesser gear oil than
its predecessor.
The new 1.5-litre Ti-VCT three-cylinder petrol
engine develops 123 PS and 136 Nm of torque. It will come married to a 6-speed
automatic transmission. The new Ford Figo will go on sale in India in early 2019.
