Another Royal Enfield motorcycle has been upgraded
with the safety net of ABS, and this time, it is the Redditch 350. The bike,
which was launched in India in January 2017, is aimed to attract young buyers
with its bright paint schemes.
The Redditch 350 range is based on the Royal Enfield
Classic 350. Previously, Royal Enfield had updated the motorcycle with a rear
disc brake. With the safety net of dual-channel ABS, the Royal Enfield Redditch
350 is now available at approximately INR 1.79 lakh (on-road). For reference,
the version with rear drum brake was priced at INR 146,093 (on road, Delhi).
Apart from the addition of ABS, there are no visual
changes to the motorcycle. Thus, the Royal Enfield Redditch 350 continues to
feature headlight casing, oval toolbox, and single-seat spring saddle among
others. All these conform to the native imagery of British motorcycles in the
aftermath of World War II. The motorcycle continues being available in three colour options –
Redditch Red, Redditch Green and Redditch Blue.
The Royal Enfield Redditch 350 is powered by a 346
cc Single Cylinder, 4-stroke, Twinspark, Aircooled engine with a carburettor
that delivers 19.8 bhp of maximum power at 5,250 rpm and 28 Nm of peak torque
at 4,000 rpm. The engine is paired with a five-speed gearbox. A 280mm disc with
a 2-piston calliper at the front and a 240mm disc with single-piston calliper
provide the stopping power while the safety net of dual-channel ABS will be
standard.
Shock absorptions tasks are still performed by 35 mm
telescopic forks at the front and twin gas charged suspension with 5-step
adjustable preload at the rear. Do note that from April 2019, ABS will be mandatory on all
two-wheelers with a displacement of 125 cc and above. Royal Enfield has been
aggressively updating its product portfolio well ahead of the deadline set by
the Indian government. Last month, the company launched the ABS-equipped
Thunderbird 350, Thunderbird 350X and Thunderbird 500X in India. The 650 Twins
arrived with ABS as standard.
The non-ABS variants of the motorcycle should be
available until the stock lasts, or April 2019.
