The upcoming Suzuki Gixxer 250 will be unveiled next
month at a dealer conference, according to a report from BikeAdvice. The report further claims that
the Suzuki Gixxer 250 will be launched in Q1 2019, soon after the dealer unveiling.
A 24 November report suggested that the Gixxer 250 was expected in the market
by April 2019. The Gixxer 250 will be an India-specific model and will draw
design inspiration from the Suzuki GSX-S750 and the Haojue DR-300. However, the styling will be an evolution of the existing
Gixxer range.
Reports suggest that Suzuki will first introduce the
naked Streetfighter version, which will be later followed by a fully-faired
'SF' variant, the path taken by the smaller Gixxer. The motorcycle will
reportedly receive LED headlight and taillight, and digital instrumentation. The Gixxer 250 is likely to
feature the same chassis that underpins the smaller sibling. However, the frame
will be strengthened to handle the higher specifications.
The Suzuki Gixxer 250 will be a direct rival to the
Yamaha FZ25; however, it will also compete with the likes of the TVS Apache RTR
200 4V and the Bajaj Pulsar NS 200. On the other hand, the fully-faired Gixxer
250 SF variant will take on the Yamaha Fazer 25 and the Honda CBR250R.
Powering the Suzuki Gixxer 250 will be an all-new
250cc single-cylinder DOHC engine with possibly a 4-valve head and oil cooling
to keep the costs low. Reports claim that motor will produce power in the
ballpark of 22-25 bhp. As for pricing, the Gixxer 250 is expected to come in at
INR 1.40-1.50 lakh (ex-showroom).
The Suzuki Gixxer 250 will feature ABS as standard.
However, it remains to be seen if Suzuki will offer a single- or a dual-channel
ABS. Braking power will come from disc brakes at both the ends, while
suspension duties are likely to be handled by a telescopic fork and a
mono-shock.
