Maruti Suzuki has started accepting pre-booking for
the 2019 WagonR and announced its features and specifications. Customers can
place an order for their tall boy hatchback for INR 11,000. While reports had said that the
Maruti WagonR will stick to its old platform because the Heartect platform
would make the car too expensive, that’s not the case.
Maruti Suzuki has
confirmed in a press release that it has developed the “Big New WagonR” on the
Heartect platform, which underpins the Ignis, Swift, Baleno and Dzire.
Maruti Suzuki will offer the third generation WagonR
with a 1.0-litre or a 1.2-litre petrol engine. The company hasn’t released
details of these engines, but from leaks, we know that these are the K10B
three-cylinder (67.98 PS/90 Nm) and K12M four-cylinder (82.94 PS/113 Nm) units.
Transmission choices include 5-speed manual and 5-speed automated manual. The
company says that the all-new model has improved safety, rigidity and NVH
performance.
The 2019 Maruti Wagon R features a new Smartplay
Studio touchscreen infotainment system. Expect this system, which will offer
Apple CarPlay and Android Auto support as per reports, to have a low-cost
resistive touchscreen. On the safety front, the all-new model will come
equipped with driver airbag, ABS with EBD, front seat belts reminder, speed
alert system and rear parking sensors in all the grades.
Maruti Suzuki offers the 2019 Wagon R in 1.0L Lxi,
1.0 Vxi, 1.0L Vxi AGS, 1.2L Vxi, 1.2L Vxi AGS, 1.2L Zxi and 1.2L Zxi AGS
configurations. Paint choices include four new colours, namely Pearl Poolside
Blue, Pearl Nutmeg Brown, Magma Grey and Pearl Autumn Orange, and the carried
over Silky Silver and Superior White colours. The company will launch the
all-new model on the 23rd of this month at an expected starting price of INR
4.5 lakh.
