While many Asian
countries already have the 2019 Yamaha YZF-R15 in their
respective markets, none have an ABS equipped model. This has now changed with
the introduction of the two-channel ABS YZF-R15 in India, priced at 139,000
rupees.
With the addition
of ABS, the India market R15 now weighs in at 142 kg, compared to the base
model R15 at 139 kg. To differentiate the R15 ABS from the normal R15,
different graphics are applied but all other specifications remain the same.
The R15 comes with
a single-cylinder, 155 cc, liquid-cooled power plant with VVA and produces 19.3
hp and 15 Nm of torque. Power goes through a six-speed gearbox and chain final
drive with slipper and assist clutch and the R15 comes with three colour
options – Thunder Grey or Racing Blue at 139,000 rupees and Darknight
which is priced at 141,000 rupees.
Coming with a
monochrome LCD meter inside the cockpit, the India market R15 is shod with the
same wide tyres as the Malaysian market model – 100/80-17 in front and
140/70-17 at the back. The R15 ties everything together with a Deltabox frame
and aluminium alloy swingarm with single brake discs front and rear.
However, the Indian
Yamaha YZF-R15 comes with conventional telescopic forks instead of the
upside-down units we get locally. The addition of ABS increases the price of
the R15 by 12,000 rupees over the base model.
