This marks the first time we’ve spotted the flagship
AMG-powered version of Mercedes‘ upcoming GLE Coupe model, which until now has
only been captured on camera in lower trim AMG 53 and regular specs. Compared to the 53 model, the 63
should perform considerably better, given how much power and extra torque it
produces. So while the former is expected to pack some 435 PS and 520
Nm, the 63 version will likely replicate the E63’s 4.0-liter V8
setup, in two stages of power.
The GLE 63 should then pump out 571 PS and
750 Nm of torque, whereas the 63 S version will raise the stakes
even higher, with 612 PS and 850 Nm of torque of its own,
everything going to all four corners with the help of a nine-speed automatic
transmission.
Unlike the regular 2020 GLE Coupe, this particular
prototype sports a chunky front bumper with large air intakes, wider fenders,
side sills, massive brakes and a Panamericana grille. Out back, we can see four
square exhaust pipes, unlike the four round ones spotted underneath the rear
bumper of the GLE 53 Coupe prototype.
While this is just a guess, seen as how the current
GLE 63 S can accelerate to 100 km/h in 4.2 seconds with 585 PS and 760 Nm of torque at its disposal, we reckon the all-new
model will either much or perhaps shave a tenth of a sec, which would be a
pretty stunning accomplishment for such a large crossover.
As for what we can expect inside, the flagship model
of the GLE Coupe range will retain a dual-screen setup for the dashboard, grab
handles for the center console, as well as the automaker’s latest software and
on-board tech.
According to sources, Mercedes will launch the GLE
63 Coupe later this year, with rivals such as the BMW X6 M and Audi RS Q8 in
its sights.
