We have another look at the forthcoming BMW 4 Series
Cabriolet, we get a closer look at it and into its cabin. Inside, the
Cabriolet gets the dashboard architecture of the G20 3 Series, here equipped
with the latest iteration of the M Sport steering wheel. Also seen here from
the latest BMWs, albeit switched off, is the dual widescreen setup for driver
instrumentation and infotainment.
Codenamed G22, the open-air 4 Series will revert to
a fabric roof construction in place of the folding hard top that had previously
been in place. This offers a few benefits, namely additional reduced weight and
additional luggage capacity due to the more compact folding roof assembly.
As before, the 4 Series in both coupe and convertible
forms will mirror the 3 Series in terms of engine range, and should comprise a
mix of four- and six-cylinder units. The G20 3 Series engine line-up comprises
a 2.0 litre with outputs between 184 hp/300 Nm and 258 hp/400 Nm, with a
plug-in hybrid in the mix as well.
Should there be a six-pot version of the soft-top,
motive power will come courtesy of the 3.0 litre turbocharged inline-six from
the M340i, which produces 374 hp and 500 Nm of torque in the sedan application.
The caretaker flagship – until the full-fledged M3 arrives – sends its outputs
to all four wheels, and the same will be the case should there be an ‘M440i’
convertible. All versions are expected to use an eight-speed automatic.
