Newly launched in Malaysia is the 2019 Aprilia
Shiver 900 naked sports bike, priced at RM 72,000. The Shiver 900 is the first
of Aprilia’s sports bikes to be launched in Malaysia since the distributorship
was taken over by Didi Resources from Naza Premira in July 2018.
Carrying the Aprilia V-twin, the Shiver 900 gets
95.2 hp at 8,750 rpm and 90 Nm of torque at 6,500 rpm from its liquid-cooled,
DOHC, eight-valve mill. Fed by EFI and controlled by ride-by-wire, the Shiver 900
gets power to the ground via a six-speed gearbox and chain final drive, with
the hydraulically operated clutch is now 15% lighter in lever effort.
A pair of 41 mm diameter upside-down Kayaba forks
prop up the front end, adjustable for rebound damping and spring preload,
giving 130 mm of front wheel travel. At the back, a monoshock adjustable for
compression and preload handles suspension duties, with 130 mm of travel. Braking is done with dual 320 mm
diameter stainless steel discs, clamped by radial-mount four-piston callipers.
At the back, a single 240 mm disc is grabbed by a single-piston calliper and
stainless steel braided brake hoses are standard equipment, as is two-channel
Continental ABS.
Fuel for the Shiver 900 is carried in a 15-litre
tank and wet weight is claimed to be 218 kg with a full load of fuel. Seat
height is 810 mm and the Shiver rolls on 17-inch wheels, shod in 120/70 rubber
in front and 180/55 at the back.
Also coming as standard fitment on the Shiver 900 is
traction control developed from Aprilia’s efforts in the World Superbike
Championship with the RSV4, which has three levels and can be disabled. There
is also three ride modes in the electronics suite – Sport, Touring and Rain –
with Sport being the most aggressive and Rain mode reducing power to 70 hp.
Ride modes can be changed on the fly by using the
start button and all the information the rider needs is displayed on a 4.3 inch
TFT-LCD display, which is adaptive based on lighting conditions. Part of the
Shiver 900’s electronics suite is the Aprilia MIA system, which allows
connectivity to the rider’s smartphone allowing for display of navigation data
and control of music playback as well as intercom capability.
There are two colour choices for the 2019 Aprilia
Shiver 900 – Challenging Red and Innovation Dark – with a wide range of sports
and touring accessories available from the catalogue, such as comfort saddle,
panniers and tank bag. The Shiver 900 is currently on display at authorised
Aprilia distributors and at the Aprilia showroom in The Gasket Alley, PJ.
