KTM’s new middleweight adventure
motorcycles have arrived in the US at attractive prices. The KTM 790 Adventure
has been launched in the US for USD 12,499, while the R variant
retails for a USD 1,000 more at USD 13,499. In comparison,
prices for the Triumph Tiger 800 start from USD 12,000 for the XR and go all the way to USD 16,200 for the XCa.
In Europe, the motorcycles were launched at € 12,399 or £ 11,099 for the base and € 13,299 or £ 11,999for the R variant. The KTM 790 Adventure and 790
Adventure R would arrive in the Indian market although the Dakar Rally winning
brand has remained tight-lipped about the launch timeline. We expect to see the
adventure tourer to reach by late 2020.
The production-ready KTM 790 Adventure duo, which
made their debut at the 2018 EICMA motorcycle, was developed in close
collaboration with the KTM Factory Racing team alongside the KTM 450 Rally
bike. Mechanical specifications are identical on both variants, and the
motorcycles use a 799cc, LC8c, parallel-twin engine that also propels the 790
Duke. The engine on the Adventure models delivers 95 bhp of maximum power and
comes mated to a six-speed transmission with slipper clutch. The electronic
package includes ride-by-wire throttle, multi-level traction control system,
selectable riding modes, quick shifter and switchable ABS with Enduro mode.
The KTM 790 Adventure duo features a unique position
for the fuel tank that sits on either side of the engine. The design is aimed
for improved mass centralisation, higher ground clearance and lower seat
height.
