SsangYong has released the first photos and some
information of the all-new Korando ahead of the SUV’s Korean launch later this
month and its global auto show debut in Geneva.
influenced by the larger G4 Rexton, the fourth-generation
Korando adopts a similar front end design, muscular creases on the sides, as
well as similar headlights and taillights. There are also some influences from
the e-SIV Concept unveiled at last year in Geneva, but they’re not as
significant as one would have hoped for.
Inside, the new Korando adopts the “Blaze Cockpit”
design language that focuses on digitization. The dashboard is dominated by a
10.25-inch infotainment touchscreen, with the 2019 Korando also featuring a
9-inch digital instrument panel. The new layout allows the number of physical
buttons to be reduced to a minimum on the center console.
In terms of practicality, SsangYong says the boot
offers 551 liters of storage space. For added convenience, the SUV also
offers an optional power tailgate.
In Korea, the 2019 Korando will be available with a
new 1.6-liter turbodiesel engine. The specs are not out yet, but we should
expect an improvement over the current 1.6-liter diesel rated at 116 PS and 300 Nm of torque in the Tivoli subcompact SUV.
On the safety front, the new Korando will offer a
range of driving assistance features such as intelligent adaptive cruise
control, auto emergency braking (AEB), Lane Keep Assist (LKAS), Driver
Attention Alert (DAA), as well as “Safety Distance Alert,” which could be
SsangYong-speak for forward collision warning.
