If you’re going to visit the 2019 Chicago Auto Show,
don’t forget to pay a visit to Toyota’s stand to check out the new generation
Supra. One of the most talked about sports cars of the year,
it marks the return of the ‘Supra’ nameplate after nearly two decades. Beneath those curvy body panels,
the Supra hides the same architecture and technology as the BMW Z4, with the
two cars sharing the same fire power as well.
In the U.S. of A., the only engine available at launch
is the 3.0-liter turbo-six, which pumps out 335 horsepower and 494 Nm of torque. Power is directed to the rear wheels
through an eight-speed automatic gearbox only, as there’s no manual option at
this time. This configuration allows for a 0-96 km/h time of 4.1
seconds.
The all-new Supra starts at just under US$ 49,990 in
the 3.0 grade while the 3.0 Premium version costs US$ 4,000 more. Celebrating the
introduction of the car Stateside is the Launch Edition, which has an MSRP of US$ 55,250 with production capped at 1,500 units.
Opting for the most basic model still gets you a
wide range of standard gear. The 6.5-inch infotainment system, Alcantara seats,
dual-zone climate control, keyless entry, reversing camera and others are all
included. In order to enjoy the navigation and JBL premium sound system, you
will have to spend another US$ 2,460.
As for the higher grade Premium, it adds a larger
8.8-inch touchscreen display, wireless charging pad, head-up display, heated leather
seats and a few other features.
The Supra Launch Edition, on the other hand, comes
in Absolute Zero White, Nocturnal Black or Renaissance Red 2.0 exterior colors,
with contrasting accents and special interior trim. All 1,500 cars will get an
individually-numbered carbon fiber badge to highlight the limited production
run.
