Geely has released first images of the car that it
teased last month, the Geely GE11. The three images you see here appeared on
Facebook with the caption “new car, new energy, new logo, new paradigm.” Geely said that the GE11 will be unveiled in early 2019.
The GE11
is a new battery powered EV, the first for Geely since the launch of the
Emgrand EV in 2015. The sedan is a “globally developed product” and will
spearhead the Chinese carmaker’s efforts in entering overseas markets.
The GE11’s face uses a “closed frontal design
language” with the headlights designed around the concept of ‘Yi’, the Chinese
word for one. This allows the eyes of the car to reach across the front and up
into the front arches. The lack of a grille is of course not a technical issue
here, as the GE11 doesn’t have an internal combustion engine under the hood.
The charging flap is on the right front wing, above the wheel.
Speaking of the hood, the strong pronounced hoodline
also improves the drag coefficient performance of the four-door body to just
0.2375 Cd. Another move to smoothen the body is the integration of the door
handles into the bodywork. The handles sit flush and will only appear when the
driver is within a certain range.
We’ve previously seen leaked
images of the GE11’s back end and its cockpit. The rear design is very clean,
while the cabin features a very high centre console and a huge centre screen. The “new logo” does away with the
black, blue and gold tones on Geely’s regular emblem seen on its ICE-powered
cars, and could be reserved for the company’s EV range.
Chinese news reports mention a 177 PS electric motor and a top speed of 150 km/h for the sedan, which measures 4,736
mm long and 1,804 mm wide, with a wheelbase of 2,700 mm.
