Polestar will reveal the battery-powered 2 on
February 27 at an online event before taking it to the Geneva Motor Show for
its public debut. Volvo’s now standalone performance brand has been teasing its first
all-electric model for the past few months, with reports talking about a
500 km driving range and a combined output of 395 hp.
The latest reports suggest that the new Polestar 2
will adopt a four-door coupe bodystyle with a similar size to that of the Tesla
Model 3, making it the first true rival to the high-performance American EV. Other
sources indicate that the design will be inspired by Volvo’s 40.2 Concept,
which featured a high-riding four-door sedan bodystyle.
In addition, the Polestar 2 will become the world’s
first production model to feature the Google Android HMI (Human Machine
Interface) infotainment system, which will come with Google Assistant,
over-the-air updates, as well as popular Google services like Maps and the Play
Store.
Polestar is expected to offer customers two options:
either purchasing directly their models or via their subscription service,
where buyers pay a monthly flat fee that covers the cost of the vehicle, along
with maintenance and insurance.
