Ferrari is getting
ready to reveal a new mid-engine supercar with a hybrid powertrain that
combines a twin-turbo V8 with an electric motor. The new supercar will be
positioned above the 488 per Ferrari’s official future strategy, which includes
the introduction of a “two tier mid-rear engine product range”.
Ferrari is
planning to reveal the new model as soon as next week according to some rumors
but not at the Geneva Motor Show. Other rumors suggest
that Ferrari will reveal the 488 replacement first at the Geneva Motor Show,
followed by the more powerful hybrid supercar’s debut later this year, which we
have to say sounds more plausible.
The new hybrid
Ferrari will be a regular, series-production model with a regular lifecycle,
and will be the first to feature Ferrari’s second-generation hybrid technology.
The first one was the limited LaFerrari with its hybrid V12 powertrain.
With the Ferrari
488 Pista already packing 711 hp from its twin-turbo V8, it’s pretty easy to
wonder what kind of firepower will the new mid-engined hybrid Ferrari will get.
Ferrari will want to make a statement with its first series-production hybrid
supercar and therefore the horsepower figure could go as high as four digits,
surpassing even the LaFerrari.
All we have to do
is wait and see what Ferrari has in store for us in the coming weeks, starting
with the Geneva Motor Show.
