Skoda has now released two official sketches of Kamiq that preview its exterior design. The front lighting signature is
unique to the brand, with its horizontally split lights. The ones positioned
above the headlamps serve as DRLs and are joined by dynamic turn signals at
both ends and a grille with double slats that’s typical to Skoda SUVs.
Giving the profile a sporty look is the slightly
lowered roofline behind the B pillars. And further back, the ‘SKODA’ lettering
can be seen on the tailgate between the angular, C-shaped taillights. Elsewhere, the Kamiq features a
silver-colored scuff plate at the front and adopts a similar approach for the
rear diffuser. The silver-finished roof rails and large wheels, as well as the
dynamic lines that run across its length, complete the exterior look.
Based on the VW Group’s MQB A0 architecture, the
Kamiq is essentially the Seat Arona’s and VW T-Cross’ Czech cousin. It will share
the engine lineup with the other two B-segment SUVs, and like them, will
probably stick to front-wheel drive only.
Limited to the European market, sales of the Kamiq
should begin shortly after its official unveiling. Skoda has chosen the 2019
Geneva Motor Show, which kicks off on March 5, to host the public premiere of
the Kamiq, but we expect more teasers, and maybe a full press release, in the
meantime.
