The small premium
SUV segment is brimming with new entries, but the new Lexus UX enters the
European market as the only self-charging hybrid crossover in its class.
Customers will be
offered a choice between two powertrain options; the entry-level model, which
is available in select countries, is the UX 200. It is powered by a new
2.0-liter petrol four producing 171 PS and 205 Nm of
torque and is paired to a CVT transmission driving the front wheels.
The UX 250h that’s
pictured here features the brand’s newest hybrid powertrain, which combines a
2.0-liter four-cylinder with up to two electric motors. This depends on whether
you opt for the FWD or the E-Four AWD version, but in both cases the combined
output rating is set at 181 hp.
The UX 250h can
accelerate from 0 to 100 km/h in 8.5 seconds (E-Four: 8.7 seconds) and
hit a top speed of 177 km/h. Fuel economy is impressive, with Lexus
announcing up to 53.3 mpg UK combined (5.3lt/100km) for the FWD and up to 48.7
mpg UK (5.8lt/100km) for the E-Four version, per the latest WLTP cycle. CO2
emissions can drop as low as 94g/km for the FWD and 103g/km for the E-Four.
All UX models come
with the Lexus Safety System+, which includes driver assistance systems like
Pre-Collision System with pedestrian detection, Adaptive Cruise Control, Lane
Keep Assist, Lane Trace Assist, Road Sign Assist and more, as standard.
In the cabin,
there’s a seven-inch infotainment system with navigation, although customers
can opt for the bigger 10.3-inch version that adds connected features, as well
as a high-end 13-speaker Mark Levinson sound system.
