Audi is continuing the development work on the new A6 Allroad, which was expected to make its debut at the Geneva Motor Show but did not actually show up. The jacked-up version of the A6 Avant will be marketed once again as an alternative to mid-size SUVs and a rival to the likes of the Volvo V90 Cross Country and Mercedes E-Class All-Terrain. that means it will feature a longer suspension travel, extra body cladding and a few design differences from its “regular” siblings in order to make it look more rugged and adventurous.

At this point, the test car is wearing just a few patches of camouflage in the areas where the Allroad is expected to be different, namely the fenders, bumpers and front grille, which will feature a model-specific arrangement with six vertical strips. The new generation of the A6 Allroad will ride on an adaptive air suspension, giving the driver the option to alter the ride height, while the powertrain range will feature the brand’s latest 48-volt mild-hybrid technology and Audi’s Quattro all-wheel drive system as standard.

If Ingolstadt sticks to its existing Allroad strategy, the engines will include the 3.0-liter TFSI V6 with 335 hp and 500 Nm of torque and the 3.0-liter TDI V6 with 282 hp and 620 Nm of torque. The detuned 228hp version of the 3.0-liter TDI V6, as well as the recently revealed plug-in hybrid TFSI-e powertrain, could also become available.

Inside the new A6 Allroad, expect to see the same interior with the A6, only slightly jazzed up with different materials and trim options. Audi’s latest triple display setup (instrument cluster-infotainment-HVAC controls) will be the star of the show for the cabin, together with the premium materials we’ve come to expect from Audis. The new A6 Allroad is just one of the A6 variants that are coming our way in the next few months, as both the S6 and RS6 models are expected to be revealed this year.
