Audi’s plan to electrify its model range includes
the compact Q2 SUV, which is set to receive the full E-Tron treatment as
announced late last year. Back then the company said that it will offer a full electric version
of the long-wheelbase variant of the Q2 specifically to Chinese customers and
this is our second time spotting a camouflaged test car.
Last time we saw the Q2 L E-tron test car was in
Germany but now Audi took it further north for some proper cold-weather development
work. Unlike the production version of the Q4 E-Tron which will be based on
the EV-only MEB architecture, the Q2 L E-Tron is going to use a reengineered
version of the normal Q2’s underpinnings, mounting the electric motor up front
and the battery pack probably lying under the passenger cell.
Exterior differences include a set of redesigned
bumpers, along with a different front grille that shares the same style with
the bigger E-Tron and the rather obvious absence of exhaust tips. Audi didn’t mention any details
on the specs of the upcoming Q2 L E-Tron, with previous reports suggesting a
driving range of up to 500 km on a full charge.
Audi
plans to offer 12 new electrified models by the end of 2020, with six plug-in
hybrid models to be added in the range this year. The 2020 Audi Q2 L E-Tron is
expected to be launched in China this year, and will be sold alongside the
bigger E-Tron.
