Karma Automotive has released the first teaser image
of the 2020 Revero, ahead of its debut at the Shanghai Auto Show next month. The teaser isn’t very revealing,
but it shows the Revero will have an evolutionary design with restyled headlights.
That isn’t much to go on, but Karma said we can expect an “even more stunning”
design than its predecessor.
While Karma describes the 2020 Revero as “all-new,”
previous spy photos have suggested this isn’t necessarily the case. Instead, it
appears the car will be getting a minor facelift that focuses on updating the
front and rear fascias. This is long overdue as the original Fisker Karma
debuted at the 2008 North American International Auto Show and its design
hasn’t changed much in the past 11 years.
The updated Revero will go on sale in the second
half of 2019 and the company says the car will be smarter and faster than its
predecessor. This statement suggests the model could be getting an upgraded
powertrain, but there’s no word on specifics.
The current model has two electric motors which
develop 403 hp and 1,329 Nm of torque. This setup
enables the Revero to accelerate from 0-96 km/h in 5.4 seconds,
before hitting an electronically limited top speed of 201 km/h. Thanks to it’s 20.8 kWh lithium-ion battery pack,
the Revero can travel up to 80 km on electricity alone. The model
also has a range-extending engine that enables the car to travel up to 483 km overall.
Besides teasing the 2020 Revero, Karma celebrated
its fifth anniversary by highlighting their new powertrain testing lab in
Irvine, California. The lab features a traction dynamometer, electric motor
dynamometer and an engine/generator test cell. The company says the new
equipment will enable them to test electric motors, generators and
range-extended powertrains in-house.
